"Tales of Phantasia" is practically upon us...!
The "Tales of Phantasia" OVA in which I'm voicing the villain Dhaos and for which I adapted/directed the English dub is hitting the shelves TOMORROW.
It's a real departure from the sort of writing/directing I did for the likes of "Girls Bravo" and "Kamichu!", although I think script-adapting portions of "The Melody of Oblivion" dub made for some good applicable experience since "Tales of Phantasia" and it are both shows about people striving to accomplish an almost-impossible task against overwhelming odds.
Anyhow, I hope some of you get a chance to check it out--and that the dub lives up to everyone's expectations!

One week into 2007; so far, so good...
I wrapped up work on "Saiyuki Reload Gunlock" last week, and as is so often the case, it's a little sad when it comes time for the character (Hazel, in this case) and I to part ways. He was such a self-righteous son-of-a-bitch--a zealot, really--and getting to throw the accent into the mix just made him all the more fun to portray. I have volumes four and five of "Saiyuki Reload Gunlock" now, but I haven't popped them into the DVD player yet. I enjoy getting to see how my scenes turned out after the fact, when I don't have the pressures and the immediacy of recording them coloring my perceptions of my takes, and I'm looking forward to getting to check out everyone else's performances in the show, but I can be such an unforgiving arbiter of my own work--whether it's acting, script adapting, or ADR directing. And in a sense, that's good. I don't ever want to be complacent. That said, though, I need to lighten up on myself sometimes. Ideally, I'd be just as diligent in recognizing my good moments as I am in spotting my weaker ones...
