April 07, 2006"Kamichu!"
Okay, now that it's been officially announced (as of about a week and a half ago, at Anime Detour), I can finally mention "Kamichu!", which I have the great good fortune to be adapting and directing.
Revolving as it does around the day-to-day life of a shy little Japanese middle-school girl who suddenly finds out she's a Shinto goddess, "Kamichu!" is about as different from "Girls Bravo" as a show could be. I'm enjoying the change of pace, though. As much as I loved "Girls Bravo," it's good to try different things--and, like I mentioned before, "Kamichu!" is nothing if not different.
Sure, there are talking cats, gods who want to be rock stars, aliens, spirit possession, astral projection...the whole nine yards. But at its heart, "Kamichu!" is about a very normal girl who's trying to deal with all the issues those early teen years toss at all of us--keeping her grades up, dealing with that certain special someone whose presence leaves her tongue-tied and blushing, worrying about a lost pet, going to the beach with her friends. The crazier aspects of her life as a newbie Shinto goddess are part of that life, but they don't eclipse it.
Click here for an episode-by-episode breakdown of the original 12 episodes (there will be four bonus episodes on the DVD release). I wouldn't recommend reading them all, as what's the fun in that, but you can at least skim the first few episodes and get a feel for what it's all about.
The first DVD comes out on June 6th.
(Yes, that's 6/6/06. No, I don't think it was intentional.)

CommentsAnd... when you're hiring the VO artists and/or adaptors for these episodes...?
(Coughs. Shuffles feet. Stares at ceiling.)
