"Ooh, I don't care if it takes me all night, I'm going to get me that lobster harmonica. Come on, Lobstey!"

Clearly, an idea whose time has come.

    Vegas, part two...

Okay, so my last entry may have been a little sensationalist. There was a nine-vehicle pile-up on the Strip today--not a car chase, if you want to split hairs, but close enough.

Ashley competed in the Women's Epee event this morning and did pretty well. Of her six pool bouts, she won two, came within a point of winning another two, and scored at least a single point on everybody she fenced. Her DE (direct elimination) bout was neck-and-neck, with her opponent squeaking out a 15-14 victory on the final point. A good morning, that.

For my part, I sat and watched and mumbled "Come on, get her...!" when things got especially close. Through it all, I listened to my new iPod Shuffle. It took me a while to figure out how to make it play, and the earbuds don't quite want to stay in my ears, but hey, it was free.

I'm still figuring out how I feel about iPods, though. They're handy, to be sure, and having music at my disposal did make the stretches between Ashley's bouts go by quicker. However, I don't know that I'm comfortable with having the music sound like it's right in my head. I know that the world is basically just whatever we perceive, but I still like to think that the music is coming from some external source, y'know? There's something unsettling and world-renouncing about it.

On the plus side, this iPod experience has gotten me excited about a short story idea I had some time back and never did anything with--a concept piece involving portable music that goes (as is often the case in my stories) terribly, terribly awry.

Haven't done any gambling yet, but I might hit the nickel slots and drop a little cash at the blackjack table. Then again, I might just go down to the arcade and sweat my way through a couple more bucks on DDR or remind myself how hard the "Star Wars" game is on that Death Star level.

We caught a few minutes of "Rush Hour" last night, and now we're both jonesing to see the rest of it. I don't know why, but watching Chris Tucker do his little dance to the "Captain Eo" music after the car blows up in the beginning of the movie tickled me greatly.

That's all for now. I'm going to grab "Something Rotten" (somebody remind me to rave about Jasper Fforde in another entry) and head for the bath. Not that I'm short enough to actually fit in the bath, but a fellow can dream.
