September 10, 2003Governor Jerk strikes again...
Would you be at all shocked to hear that Gray Davis is in diss-his-opponents mode?
No, I didn't think so.
"You shouldn't be governor unless you can pronounce the name of the state," Davis said yesterday, referring to Arnold Schwarzenegger's penchant for calling it "Cal-ee-fornia". This, mind you, from the governor who only last Friday signed a bill allowing illegal aliens the right to receive driver's licenses.
Schwarzenegger's reply: "He doesn't like the way I say the word California because I say Cal-ee-fornia rather than Cal-a-fornia. But there's many other words that he doesn't like. Lost jobs, he doesn't like that word. He doesn't like blackout. He doesn't like energy crisis. And he definitely doesn't like recall."
Y'know, if you can get beyond the fact that "energy crisis" and "lost jobs" are actually two words apiece, it's a pretty decent retort.

CommentsWell, after the debate, I'd say that Arnold is quite dissable. Did he even once answer a question without changing the subject, or resorting to cutesy movie lines or ad hominem attacks? And his attitude toward Ariana Huffington (as opposed to any of the male candidates) was patronizing, snide and rude.
Biggest flub of the evening -- when he tap-danced around his well-known anti-illegal-immigrant bias in answer the question whether children of illegal immigrants should get health care, etc. Arianna called him on it and he got downright snippy. (Of course, she missed the opportunity to point out that Arnold didn't exactly follow immigration law when he came here from Austrua.)
And, contrary to Arnold's comments, Arianna's references to the Bush Administration were right to the point. California would not be in this mess were it not for the mess in which Bush has put the National economy.
Although I'm voting against the recall and was going to vote for Cruz Bustamante, I'm now rather inclined to vote for Arianna. She knows what she's talking about, she doesn't take shit from anyone and she's not connected to big money.
Of course, for this to have been a real debate, it should have included all 135 candidates. Just another example of the electoral system not really being designed for everyone. Only the "important" (i.e., wealthy enough to buy attention) candidates are included in the debate. And although, in theory, anyone could get onto the ballot, in practice, it comes back to money -- $3500 and ten signatures, or $65 and ten thousand signatures to qualify.
Yeah, there's no bias there at all, eh?
Okay, perhaps an off-topic rant, perhaps not. But I just had to vent on my reaction to tonight's latest installment of the circus. And after this, I'd prefer anyone on the ballot to Arnold -- even pornstar Mary Carey. Even Gary "Arnold" Coleman...
